Frankfort, Ky. - Former Kentucky Governor Julian Morton Carroll passed away on Sunday at the age of 92, according to a statement from his family. Carroll, who served as Lieutenant Governor before becoming Governor in 1974, died at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. His family expressed their deep sadness over the loss of their "beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather," recognizing his lifelong dedication to public service in Kentucky.

Carroll's political career spanned over six decades, starting with his five terms in the Kentucky House of Representatives. In 1974, he succeeded Gov. Wendell Ford and went on to win a full term as Governor in 1975, serving until 1979. He was known for his commitment to supporting public education and advocating for those he represented in Frankfort.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear lamented the passing of former Governor Carroll, acknowledging his unwavering dedication to public service. In a post on social media, Gov. Beshear urged the community to join him in sending prayers to Carroll's family during this difficult time.

Kentucky House of Representatives Speaker David Osborne also expressed his condolences, recognizing Carroll's extensive political career and highlighting his service in both the Kentucky House and Senate as well as his tenure as Lieutenant Governor and Governor. Osborne also mentioned that Carroll has been reunited with his late wife, Charlann, and son, Brad.

Funeral arrangements for Julian Carroll have yet to be announced. The details are expected to be shared with the public on Monday.
