In an effort to boost voter enthusiasm and secure much-needed campaign funds, former Democratic presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton are reportedly planning to join President Joe Biden for a fundraising event, according to NBC News. The event, which is still in the early planning stages, may take place in March or April.
With the 2024 presidential election shaping up to be a rematch between Biden and former President Donald Trump, there is growing concern among voters about the lack of enthusiasm and the advanced age of both candidates. Biden, who is currently 81 years old, would be 82 if he were to serve a second term, while Trump, who turns 78 this year, would also be in his 80s.
The proposed campaign fundraiser suggests that Obama and Clinton are recognizing the importance of supporting Biden's reelection bid. While it is not uncommon for an incumbent president to have an approval rating below 50%, Biden's approval rating has been consistently hovering in the high 30s over the past year.
"There is real focus and urgency around making sure we beat Trump," said an unnamed advisor to Biden. "Everyone is all in. And this kind of event early on is just the latest demonstration of that."
Earlier this month, Obama urged Biden to step up his campaign efforts, as he became "animated" at the thought of Trump returning to power. Responding to the call, Biden's reelection campaign has increased its hiring efforts and is preparing for a "very aggressive" campaign schedule in the coming months. Biden himself plans to engage directly with voters, individually reaching out and listening to their concerns.
The potential joint fundraiser with Obama and Clinton highlights the Democratic Party's united front in their support for Biden. The involvement of these influential former presidents signifies a collective determination to ensure the defeat of Trump and secure another term for Biden. As the campaign gains momentum, it is clear that Biden's reelection team is leaving no stone unturned in their quest to rally support and raise the necessary funds to secure victory in 2024.
