Fiery Crash Claims Two Lives in St. Johns Neighborhood

In a tragic incident on Saturday night, a fiery crash in an industrial section of the St. Johns neighborhood resulted in the deaths of two individuals, while another person sustained injuries. The collision occurred at the intersection of North Marine Drive and Leadbetter Road at approximately 11 p.m.
According to the police, two vehicles collided at the intersection, causing one of the cars to burst into flames. Firefighters swiftly arrived at the scene and managed to extinguish the fire. However, upon further inspection, the responders found the lifeless bodies of two individuals inside the burned vehicle. It remains unclear in which car the injured person was traveling.
Law enforcement authorities have not disclosed additional details about the crash, and they have not indicated whether the collision was a result of a street race. However, a news release from the police stated that numerous witnesses were believed to have been present at the time of the incident, but most left the scene without providing any information to the authorities.
The police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or possesses any photographs or videos related to the incident to come forward. They requested that any relevant material be emailed to crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov, referencing case number 24-33954.
This tragic accident marks the 10th and 11th traffic fatalities in Portland this year. Earlier on the same day, a suspected drunk driver crashed into a Camry with three occupants in downtown Portland, resulting in the ninth fatality of the year.
