LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Tragedy struck on Monday afternoon when a deadly crash forced the closure of a significant section of Nebraska Parkway in Lincoln.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene of a serious collision near the intersection of S. 20th Street and Nebraska Parkway shortly before 2 p.m.

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) reported that a white pickup truck was traveling westbound on Nebraska Parkway while a maroon car on 20th Street attempted to make an eastbound turn onto Nebraska Parkway. The two vehicles collided at the intersection, resulting in the tragic incident.

Both drivers were immediately transported to a local hospital by Lincoln Fire & Rescue with critical injuries. Sadly, the driver of the maroon car succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The identity of the deceased driver is being withheld pending notification of their family. The driver of the pickup truck is currently receiving medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the crash, Nebraska Parkway has been closed in both directions between 14th and 27th Streets. This closure is expected to have an impact on the evening commute for motorists in the area.
