Firefighters in southwest Baltimore responded to a call reporting an explosion at a rowhome, only to discover a fire upon arrival. The incident occurred on Saturday at around 8:50 a.m. at the 1500 block of Ridgely Street.

According to city fire officials, when the firefighters arrived at the scene, they observed fire emanating from the sidewalk as well as an overhanging power line. The incident commander initially suspected a natural gas leak in the vicinity.

Further investigation revealed that the explosion had taken place within an occupied rowhome. Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries as a result of the incident.

Initial observations from city fire officials suggest that the explosion may have been triggered by the electrical powerline, potentially due to a natural gas leak. However, no definitive determination has been made at this time. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire and explosion.

Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), the local utility company, has confirmed its awareness of the incident. BGE crews have been dispatched to the scene to conduct their own investigation.

The safety of the residents in the area has been of primary concern since the incident occurred. Emergency responders have worked diligently to ensure the situation is contained and that no further danger exists.

Residents in the surrounding area are advised to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities or potential hazards to the authorities. The investigation into the cause of the explosion and subsequent fire is ongoing, and authorities will release updates as more information becomes available.

In the meantime, the community is urged to cooperate with officials to maintain safety and security.
