The Eastern Shore is set to face another round of stormy weather, starting Tuesday afternoon. The National Weather Service at Wakefield has issued a high wind watch for several counties in Maryland and Virginia, as the region prepares for high winds and significant rainfall.
According to the weather service, the storm system will bring gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 mph, with possible gusts reaching up to 60 mph. These strong winds have the potential to cause damage, including downed trees and power outages. The affected areas include Somerset and Worcester counties in Maryland, as well as Accomack, Northampton, and Matthews Counties in Virginia.
In addition to the strong winds, the storm is expected to bring heavy rain to the Eastern Shore. Preliminary forecasts indicate that between one and a half to two and a half inches of rain could accumulate before the storm subsides. With such significant rainfall, there is a concern for potential flooding.
The low-pressure system responsible for the upcoming weather disturbance will move from the mid-south across the Ohio Valley on Tuesday, continuing into Wednesday. As a result, the region can expect increasingly strong and gusty winds from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning.
Furthermore, the heavy rain is predicted to coincide with high tide cycles late Tuesday in the Chesapeake Bay. This raises concerns about flooding in low-lying areas, with the potential for mild to moderate flooding.
Residents and authorities are advised to stay updated on the evolving forecasts as the storm approaches. The National Weather Service will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide any necessary updates over the next 36 hours.
As the Eastern Shore prepares for the arrival of this midweek storm, it is crucial for individuals to take precautions and stay informed to ensure their safety.
