Jonesboro, Ark. - A magnitude 3.6 earthquake shook the residents of Region 8 on Wednesday morning, according to reports from the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Occurring at 11:46 a.m., the epicenter of the earthquake was pinpointed 3.5 miles northeast of Etowah.

The USGS recorded the depth of the earthquake at 11 km, approximately 7 miles beneath the Earth's surface. With such proximity to the surface, the earthquake was felt by people across the region.

Although the tremors sent shockwaves through the area, the Mississippi County Office of Emergency Management confirmed that as of 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, no damage had been reported. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of residents in the affected areas.

The occurrence of earthquakes in this region is not unprecedented, as Arkansas lies within the New Madrid Seismic Zone, known for its seismic activity. While this particular earthquake did not result in any damages, it serves as a reminder for residents to remain vigilant and prepared for potential seismic events.

K8 News will continue to provide updates on the situation and any developments regarding potential damage caused by the earthquake.
