Troutman, N.C. - A tragic shooting occurred on Mills Avenue this past Saturday night, resulting in the death of Alexander Hipple, an 18-year-old resident of Iredell County. Local authorities have revealed that the incident was the outcome of a drug deal gone wrong.
According to the Troutman Police Department, the fatal encounter took place on November 4 when Hipple and another individual, identified only as a 20-year-old, arranged to meet two individuals who intended to purchase marijuana from them.
When the prospective buyers arrived at the scene, they approached Hipple and his companion who were seated in their vehicle. Eager to acquire the drugs, the buyers demanded that the duo hand over the marijuana. However, instead of complying with the demand, the vehicle drove away, prompting the buyers to open fire, unleashing multiple shots at the car.
Tragically, Alexander Hipple was struck by three bullets, succumbing to his injuries at the scene. His companion, the 20-year-old, was also wounded, having been hit once. He was rushed to a local hospital but has since been discharged.
Following the shooting, the victims sought aid at a nearby Food Lion located on North Main Street, where emergency services promptly responded. Police subsequently identified a 17-year-old as a suspect in the case and took him into custody on November 7. The individual is presently held in a juvenile detention center while awaiting transfer to Superior Court, where he will face charges as an adult.
Authorities have additionally identified 19-year-old James Richard Gann as another suspect in the incident. A search warrant was executed at Gann's residence in Cornelius, although he was not found at the premises. Police suspect that Gann may have fled the state.
The Troutman Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding Gann's whereabouts or any additional details related to the case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
As the community mourns the loss of Alexander Hipple, this tragic incident serves as yet another reminder of the dangers associated with illicit drug transactions. Law enforcement agencies remain committed to addressing such criminal activities and ensuring the safety of local residents.
