Spartanburg County, SC - A tragic accident on Monday afternoon resulted in the death of a driver, as confirmed by Master Trooper William Bennett of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The incident took place just before 3 p.m. on U.S. Route 176, approximately three miles west of Spartanburg.

According to Trooper Bennett, the collision occurred when a car collided with the back of a tractor-trailer while both vehicles were traveling westward on US-176. The impact of the rear-end collision proved to be fatal for the driver of the car.

The injured driver was immediately transported to Spartanburg Regional for medical treatment. Despite medical efforts, the driver succumbed to their injuries and tragically passed away. The coroner's office has identified the deceased as Patsy Mims Coker, a 75-year-old resident of Union.

Fortunately, the driver of the tractor-trailer escaped the accident unscathed and did not require medical attention.
