In a startling turn of events, doctors have raised concerns about President Joe Biden's cognitive health, calling for him to undergo cognitive tests to determine his fitness for office. The calls come after a week filled with gaffes and a Department of Justice (DOJ) report that stated Biden, 81, was an "elderly man with a poor memory."

According to the DOJ report, Biden struggled to remember key events from his time as vice president, including the years he served in that role and even the date of his son Beau's passing. Medical professionals have noted that forgetting important details, such as the death of a loved one, is often a sign of cognitive decline and could be a precursor to dementia.

Dr. Stuart Fischer, an internal medicine physician in New York, stressed that it was essential for President Biden to take cognitive tests in order to prove his mental and physical soundness to the public. He cited the transparency of the UK's Royal Family in announcing King Charles' cancer diagnosis as an example and urged the White House to adopt a similar level of honesty concerning Biden's health issues.

In response, President Biden angrily addressed the nation, declaring, "I know what the hell I am doing!" and asserting that his memory was fine. However, moments later, he made another gaffe, referring to the Egyptian leader as the President of Mexico. These repeated incidents have only further intensified concerns regarding the President's mental acuity.

The controversy has led some Republicans, such as Rick Scott and Marjorie Taylor Greene, to call for Biden's Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment, which allows for the removal of a President deemed unfit for duty. However, experts believe that the likelihood of invoking the 25th Amendment is low, as the Democratic Party and Cabinet secretaries are expected to remain loyal to President Biden.

Dr. Jane Orient, executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, acknowledged that the decision to invoke the 25th Amendment is political but suggested that a case could be made for its use. She emphasized the importance of conducting basic cognitive tests and making the results public.

President Biden's recent gaffes, including confusing world leaders and struggling to recall important details, have raised concerns among voters. A recent NBC poll revealed that 62 percent of voters have major concerns about Biden's mental and physical health.

Neurologists specializing in aging and gerontology highlighted the need for comprehensive cognitive evaluations to accurately assess Biden's cognitive health. Tests such as the Montreal Cognitive Assessment and the Mini-Mental State Examination could provide insights into his cognitive abilities and potentially identify any signs of cognitive decline.

While some memory lapses can be attributed to normal aging, repeated incidents in public forums warrant a closer examination. Doctors emphasized the significance of assessing language abilities, comprehension, and word-finding skills in diagnosing cognitive impairment.

As the oldest sitting US President, President Biden's age has been a subject of discussion throughout his campaign and presidency. The current concerns surrounding his mental acuity bring the issue of age-related frailty and cognitive decline to the forefront once again, leaving voters questioning the impact on his ability to carry out his duties effectively.

It remains to be seen how President Biden and his administration will address these concerns and whether cognitive tests will be conducted to provide a comprehensive evaluation of his cognitive health.
