Detransitioner Chloe Cole has expressed strong criticism towards Ohio Governor Mike DeWine after he vetoed a bill that aimed to prohibit gender-affirming care for minors in the state. Cole accused the governor of being complicit in what she described as the "sterilization and mutilation" of children, claiming that parents do not have the right to abuse their own children.

During an appearance on "Fox & Friends Weekend," Cole spoke out against Governor DeWine's decision, stating, "This is no different from any form of abuse. This is the sterilization and mutilation of thousands of children happening within a state that is being entirely complicit in the choice to continue this."

Governor DeWine, a Republican, vetoed the Republican-backed Save Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act on Friday, which sparked outrage from conservatives who criticized his decision as cowardly. The bill would have not only banned gender-affirming procedures for minors but also prevented transgender athletes from participating in women's sports.

Explaining his veto in a statement, Governor DeWine said, "Were I to sign [the bill] or were [it] to become law, Ohio would be saying that the State, that the government, knows what is best medically for a child rather than the two people who love that child the most, the parents."

He further highlighted the potential consequences that the bill could have on children struggling with gender dysphoria and their families. Governor DeWine emphasized that many parents had shared stories of how their child's life was saved by receiving treatment at Ohio's children's hospitals. He also noted that some adults had informed him that if it were not for such care, they might not have survived their teenage years.

Chloe Cole, who went through a detransition process from female to male and has become a vocal critic of gender-affirming care for minors, claimed that Governor DeWine's veto came soon after she shared her own personal story with him during a Zoom call. She argued that he was aware of the harm caused to children by such procedures and characterized his decision as more than just incompetence or ignorance.

In previous interviews, Cole expressed concerns about the long-term effects of gender transition procedures and voiced a loss of trust in her healthcare provider and the healthcare system in general. During Sunday's segment, she spoke to Fox News' Rachel Campos-Duffy about what she described as the "lie" sold by "activist doctors" to her parents.

According to Cole, her parents were misled into thinking that their only choices were having a suicidal and potentially deceased daughter or a living transgender son. She emphasized that children are not driven to suicide solely because they believe they were born in the wrong body, asserting that this is primarily a psychological issue and that they require proper psychiatric assistance.

"I think he should be expelled from office," Cole stated, referring to Governor DeWine. She urged him to recognize that children are perfect in the bodies they were born with and criticized the idea that healthy children can be deemed as "born wrong" and subsequently require correction.

The controversy surrounding Governor DeWine's veto has ignited a debate over the rights and best interests of minors struggling with gender dysphoria, with activists on both sides passionately defending their positions.
