In response to deteriorating road conditions and poor driving conditions, the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) in Louisiana is urging motorists to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. DOTD crews have been diligently applying salt and de-icing materials to bridges statewide, but staff and Motorist Assistance Patrol personnel have reported worsening road conditions throughout the state.

To ensure everyone's safety, DOTD advises drivers to refrain from unnecessary travel. Those who must venture out are encouraged to check 511la.org for the latest updates on roadway conditions. Additionally, DOTD provides winter driving tips for those in need of guidance.

Several roadways in Acadiana and Lafayette have been closed due to the hazardous weather conditions. Lafayette Parish Communication District confirmed the closure of specific roadways within Lafayette due to safety concerns.

For air travelers, the Lafayette Regional Airport has issued a statement alerting them to the rapidly deteriorating road conditions. As a result, Interstate 49 northbound at La. 10 (Lebeau) has been closed for public use. Motorists traveling north are advised to utilize La. 10 to U.S. 71 as a detour.

Furthermore, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced the closure of Interstate 10 in both the eastbound and westbound directions. The closure spans from La. 415 (Lobdell) to the base of the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.

In Raceland, a section of US Hwy 90 between the Amelia Bridge (milepost 182) and LA Hwy 182 (milepost 210) has been closed in both directions as a safety precaution. Ice formation on multiple sections of the roadway prompted Louisiana State Police to implement the closure.

Adding to the list of closures, the Interstate 210 bridge from Interstate 10 to Exit 3 is now shut down in both directions due to freezing conditions. Eastbound motorists are advised to navigate from I-10 eastbound to I-210 westbound. Westbound motorists can access I-210 up to Exit 3 near the bridge.

As the weather continues to pose challenges for drivers, the DOTD and local authorities prioritize public safety and encourage motorists to stay informed about road conditions before making any travel plans.
