In a recent development, the deposition of Fulton County District Attorney, Fani Willis, has been temporarily halted in the divorce proceedings of her lead prosecutor, Nathan Wade, in the Georgia election subversion case. The decision was made by Judge Henry Thompson during a hearing in Cobb County Superior Court on Monday.
The testimony of Willis has been sought by Joycelyn Wade, the wife of special prosecutor Nathan Wade. Willis had hired Nathan several years ago to pursue the criminal case against former President Donald Trump and his allies regarding attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Allegations of an improper romantic relationship between Willis and Wade came to light in the Trump case, as it was seen as an effort to dismiss the case.
The alleged affair between Willis and Wade has also been brought up in Nathan Wade's divorce proceedings, where Joycelyn Wade is seeking more information about Nathan's finances. In a court filing on Friday, Joycelyn Wade presented credit card statements that revealed Nathan had purchased airline tickets for Willis for trips to Miami and San Francisco in recent years.
During the court hearing, Judge Thompson expressed the need to hear from Nathan Wade regarding his income and any potential extramarital affair before determining the relevance of Willis' testimony in the divorce case. Thompson stated that Nathan Wade would be the "first and best source" to provide information on these matters.
Furthermore, Joycelyn Wade's legal team pushed for Willis to testify, arguing that she should not be able to evade the deposition by hiding behind her position as the district attorney. They emphasized that they sought Willis' deposition in her individual capacity as the alleged paramour of Nathan Wade, not as the district attorney of Fulton County.
Additionally, Judge Thompson ruled that the records in the divorce proceedings should be unsealed, as proper procedures were not followed to seal them initially. He stated that a hearing should have taken place before sealing the records, which did not occur.
The controversy surrounding the alleged affair between Willis and Nathan Wade has sparked further interest in a comment made by Willis in 2020. In an interview with a local public access station, Willis had stated that it would be inappropriate for the state's top law enforcement officer to be involved in a relationship with an employee. Clips from the interview were reposted on Willis' Facebook page in April of that year.
As of now, no response has been received from Willis' office regarding the circulating video and repeated requests for comment from CNN.
The implications of these allegations and the subsequent halt to the deposition of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis will continue to unfold as the divorce proceedings of Nathan Wade progress.
