In a groundbreaking ruling, the Colorado Supreme Court has declared that former President Donald Trump is disqualified from appearing on the state's primary ballot for the 2024 presidential election. The court cited Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution as the basis for its decision, focusing on Trump's role in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

President Joe Biden expressed his agreement with the court's ruling, emphasizing that there is "no question" that Trump supported an insurrection. Biden stated, "You saw it all. Now whether the 14th Amendment applies, I'll let the court make that decision. But he certainly supported an insurrection." The president also highlighted that Trump continues to double down on his actions despite the consequences.

The Colorado Supreme Court's ruling marks the first of its kind, as previous challenges in other states have not been successful. The court explicitly stated that Colorado's secretary of state, Jena Griswold, is prohibited from listing Trump's name on the 2024 presidential primary ballot or counting any write-in votes cast for him.

Biden has been consistent in his criticism of Trump and his "Make America Great Again" following the attack on the Capitol. In September, the president warned of Trump's belief in unchecked presidential powers, referencing a quote from 2019 where Trump claimed he had "the right to do whatever I want as president," which contradicts constitutional norms to prevent authoritarian rule.

A year earlier, Biden likened the "MAGA philosophy" to "semi-fascism" during a fundraising event. He stated, "What we're seeing now is the beginning or the death knell of an extreme MAGA philosophy. It's not just Trump, it's the entire philosophy that underpins the - I'm going to say something, it's like semi-fascism."

While the ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court specifically pertains to Trump's disqualification from the state's primary ballot, it highlights the ongoing scrutiny surrounding his actions leading up to and following the Capitol attack. The implications of this decision could have wider implications in future legal challenges related to Trump's involvement in the insurrection.
