Brooklyn, NY - A car service driver who allegedly beat a man to death and severely injured his cousin in an altercation early Thursday morning has been apprehended, according to authorities. Sergio Zamora Mendoza, 33, faces charges of manslaughter and assault in connection with the deadly incident.

The violent encounter occurred after Mendoza dropped off passengers Carlos Guaman, 66, and his 52-year-old cousin on West 9th Street near Avenue T in the Gravesend neighborhood around 4:40 a.m. Allegedly, an argument broke out between Mendoza, who was behind the wheel, and the two passengers.

According to police reports, Mendoza physically attacked the cousins, delivering brutal blows to their heads, rendering them unconscious outside the vehicle. Following the assault, Mendoza drove away at a high speed.

Police sources revealed that the entire incident was captured on a doorbell camera, providing crucial evidence for the investigation.

Both victims were immediately rushed to Maimonides Medical Center for treatment of severe head trauma. Tragically, Carlos Guaman succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital, while his younger cousin remains in critical but stable condition.

Investigators were unable to interview the younger cousin, as he was reportedly highly intoxicated and had no recollection of the events that transpired. Sources state that he had consumed alcohol prior to the attack.
