In a shocking incident, the New York Police Department (NYPD) has apprehended Sergio Zamora-Mendoza, a car service driver accused of brutally beating a man to death and severely injuring another individual during a vicious attack in Brooklyn. The incident occurred on Thursday, December 7.
Zamora-Mendoza, 33, has been charged with manslaughter and assault in connection with this horrific attack, according to police sources. The suspect resides on 51st Street in Brooklyn.
According to reports, Zamora-Mendoza was behind the wheel, transporting victims Carlos Guaman, 66, and his 52-year-old cousin when they reached their destination on West 9th Street near Avenue T in Gravesend at approximately 4:40 a.m. A dispute between the driver and the cousins quickly escalated into violence.
Eyewitnesses claim that Zamora-Mendoza exited the vehicle and began repeatedly punching both Guaman and his cousin in the head. The victims were left lying on the ground before the suspect fled the scene.
Law enforcement authorities arrived at the location to find the cousins unconscious and suffering from severe head trauma. Paramedics quickly rendered medical aid before transporting them to the hospital.
One of the injured victims, the younger cousin, told investigators that he cannot recall the events that took place as he had been heavily intoxicated at the time of the assault. Sources revealed that footage captured by a doorbell camera has provided crucial evidence in the investigation.
Local residents expressed shock and disbelief at the incident, stating that such violence is highly unusual in their neighborhood. "I've been living in this neighborhood for almost 9 years and [this] has never, never happened here," said one resident, adding that it is typically a peaceful and quiet community.
The NYPD is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. Zamora-Mendoza is expected to face serious legal consequences if found guilty of the charges brought against him.
