Bobi, the world's oldest dog ever, has sadly passed away at the remarkable age of 31, according to a report by NBC News. The Guinness World Records announced on Monday that Bobi had passed away at an animal hospital in Portugal last week.

Born and raised in the Portuguese village of Conqueiros, Bobi had spent his entire life with his loving owner, Leonel Costa, and his family. Guinness World Records recognized Bobi as the oldest dog ever in February of this year, following a claim made by a 23-year-old Chihuahua named Spike.

In dog years, Bobi had reached the equivalent of approximately 86 human years. He was a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a Portuguese breed known for its role as a farm and guardian dog. Normally, this breed has a life expectancy of 12 to 14 years, making Bobi's longevity truly extraordinary.

The confirmation of Bobi's age came from his 1992 registration with a veterinary medical service in Leiria, Portugal, as well as a Portuguese government-owned pet database, said Guinness. Throughout his life, Bobi roamed freely and was never tied or leashed. He drank plenty of water and was exclusively fed human food, as mentioned by his owner, Leonel Costa. According to Costa, Bobi's calm and peaceful lifestyle played a significant role in his remarkable old age.

Bobi's story also carries a touching backstory. As a puppy, Bobi was one of four in his litter. Sadly, his three siblings were put down by Costa's parents, as the farm already had an excess of animals. Miraculously, Bobi managed to escape this fate by hiding in a stack of wood, and when Costa's parents discovered his survival, it was too late to take that tragic action.

To celebrate Bobi's 31st birthday in May, his owner threw him a traditional Portuguese birthday party, which was attended by more than 100 guests. It was a testament to the love and admiration that people had for this remarkable dog who had undoubtedly left a lasting impact on his community.

With Bobi's passing, Ohio-born Spike now holds the title for the oldest living dog. However, the legacy of Bobi, the world's oldest dog ever, will forever be remembered as he defied all odds and brought joy to those around him during his extraordinary life.

Although Bobi may no longer be with us, his story serves as an inspiration and a reminder of the enduring bond between humans and animals. His remarkable journey will continue to touch the hearts of many, leaving a legacy that will be cherished for years to come.
