The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is still in the process of finalizing the names for the chief minister posts in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, where the party emerged victorious in the recent assembly elections. Sources have revealed that the party will appoint observers for the three states tomorrow to make the crucial decision.
With more than a handful of names in the list of probable candidates, the BJP has been holding meetings to discuss the selection of three new chief ministers. In an interesting move, the party fought the elections without formally announcing any chief ministerial candidate.
Tomorrow, the appointed observers are expected to oversee meetings of the newly elected Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in the three states, where they will choose their respective leaders. The BJP considers its convincing victory in these states as a reflection of the wider popular support for its policies and the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan remains a strong contender following the party's resounding win with a two-thirds majority. Union ministers Prahlad Patel, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Narendra Singh Tomar are also being viewed as potential candidates for the coveted position.
In Chhattisgarh, political analysts have identified former chief minister Raman Singh, state BJP president Arun Kumar Sao, leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik, and former IAS officer OP Chaudhary as top contenders. Interestingly, except for Raman Singh, all three of them belong to the Other Backward Classes (OBC).
Meanwhile, out of the contenders in Rajasthan, former chief minister Vasundhara Raje stands out as a strong candidate. On Monday, around 25 BJP MLAs expressed their support for Raje during a courtesy meeting, stating that they would back her if the party leadership chooses her for the top post. Raje, accompanied by her son Dushyant Singh, also met BJP chief JP Nadda in Delhi today.
The BJP's history of surprising observers with its chief ministerial selections adds an additional element of uncertainty to these decisions. As the party gears up to announce its final choices, all eyes are on the observers who will play a decisive role in shaping the leadership landscape in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh.
