According to a report by The Hill, the number of attacks on US troops in the Middle East has risen over the weekend. The Defense Department has reported a total of 38 attacks, with 20 occurring in Iraq and 18 in Syria. This is an increase from the 32 attacks reported at the end of last week.

The attacks, which have been attributed to Iranian-backed militant groups, have primarily involved drone and rocket strikes on US bases. While several individuals have been injured, fortunately, there have been no reported deaths thus far.

Speaking to reporters, Pentagon press secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder described the attacks as "harassing" and stated that there have been a total of 45 injuries of varying degrees. The fact that the number of attacks has continued to rise, with an additional six attacks over the weekend, suggests that these militant groups are showing no signs of backing down.

In response to these escalating incidents, the United States has taken measures to bolster its presence in the region. Washington has deployed hundreds of troops, along with two aircraft carriers and a nuclear-powered submarine, aimed at deterring any groups from exploiting the unrest triggered by the Israel-Hamas war.

The Biden administration has been vocal in its warnings to Iran and other potential aggressors, urging them not to escalate tensions further. Secretary of State Antony Blinken reaffirmed these calls during a surprise visit to Iraq on Sunday, emphasizing the need for de-escalation.

Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder emphasized on Monday that the US is committed to ensuring that the situation does not spiral into further escalation. The safety and protection of American forces in the region remain a top priority. Ryder stated, "We will make sure that we're taking any necessary actions to protect our forces."

As the attacks on US troops continue to rise, it remains to be seen how the Biden administration will navigate this challenging situation while maintaining stability in the Middle East. The coming days will likely see increased efforts to address the security concerns and prevent further escalation of hostilities.
