An arctic blast has wreaked havoc across the United States, resulting in at least 37 weather-related deaths since Sunday. Heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures have engulfed regions from coast to coast, posing significant risks to the population.

Tennessee has been the hardest-hit state thus far, experiencing Nashville's snowfall of over 9 inches since Sunday, nearly double the annual average. The Tennessee Department of Health has confirmed 14 weather-related deaths, highlighting the severity of the situation.

As of Thursday morning, a staggering 92 million Americans were on high alert for the onset of cold and snowy weather. The National Weather Service issued winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories, stretching from Montana all the way to the New Jersey shoreline, as a fast-moving storm system takes aim across the country.

Although the chilly weather is expected to persist in most of the Midwest, temperatures will not be as frigid as they were earlier this week. However, there are forecasts of additional snowfall on Thursday as a storm system moves from the Plains into the Midwest and Great Lakes regions, potentially leading to hazardous road conditions.

Western New York state is predicted to experience intense bands of lake-effect snow, while scattered snow showers are expected in the rest of the Northeast, due to the persistently cold temperatures.

States like Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey can anticipate snowfall amounts ranging from 1 to 3 inches, on the lower end of the spectrum. Conversely, parts of West Virginia, particularly those near the Appalachian Mountains, may receive heavier snowfall surpassing 6 inches.

In an unprecedented turn, New York City, after a streak of 701 days with less than an inch of snow, may surpass the 1-inch mark for the second time this week.

Meanwhile, the Northwest continues to face challenges with heavy snow and gusty winds, particularly in higher elevations. The West Coast is bracing for heavy rainfall towards the end of the week and into the weekend.

Over the past few days, the Rocky Mountains have experienced an abundance of snowfall, prompting avalanche warnings for several mountains in Colorado.

With the arctic blast sweeping across the nation, authorities are urging citizens to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to stay safe while navigating the treacherous weather conditions.
