The New York Yankees bounced back from a recent offensive slump with an explosive performance on Friday night, putting up a season-high 16 runs against the Toronto Blue Jays. The 16-5 victory may look like a dominant win on the surface, but the game had its fair share of drama.

In the fifth inning, starting pitcher Marcus Stroman found himself in a tough spot with the bases loaded and no outs. With Toronto's slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at the plate, the Yankees were in desperate need of outs. Stroman induced a ground ball to shortstop Anthony Volpe, who made a force-out at second base. However, the Yankees missed out on converting the double play as Guerrero reached first base safely.

Stroman was visibly frustrated by the outcome, expressing his discontent by shouting into his glove. Lip-readers indicated that he was criticizing the speed at which Gleyber Torres, the Yankees' second baseman, threw the ball to first base. The play resulted in another run scoring for the Blue Jays.

Stroman's frustrations continued in the dugout, as he was seen shouting about the lack of intensity displayed by the team during that inning. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when team captain Aaron Judge approached Stroman in the top of the sixth inning. Many interpreted this interaction as Judge reprimanding Stroman for his public outburst towards his teammates.

But after the game, Stroman clarified that Judge's comments were not critical in nature. Instead, Judge was apologizing for missing an opportunity to make the first out of the inning. Stroman acknowledged that he was not even aware of the play and appreciated Judge's support.

"I'm very passionate," Stroman admitted in his postgame interview. "I care a lot about winning for this team and this city, and sometimes my emotions get the best of me. I made sure to have conversations with the relevant parties after the game because it's all about winning and being great out there."

Both Torres and Yankees manager Aaron Boone expressed their understanding of Stroman's reaction. Torres had no issue with Stroman's emotional display, while Boone stated that there were no problems in the team's clubhouse after the game.

The Yankees' offensive explosion was a much-needed boost after a string of lackluster performances. The win not only set a season-high run record but also served as a reminder of the team's potential. With Stroman expressing his passion and determination, the Yankees are poised to continue their pursuit of success in the coming games.

Statcast revealed that the ball Judge was apologizing for not getting in the fifth inning had an xBA (expected batting average) of .510, emphasizing the difficulty of the play.
