In a setback for the New York Yankees, catcher Jose Trevino has been put on the 10-day injured list due to a left quad strain, the team announced prior to today's game. The injury occurred during Friday's game against the Orioles when Trevino slid home while scoring a run in the ninth inning.

Manager Aaron Boone informed reporters that the exact timeline for Trevino's return is uncertain, as he has returned to New York for further testing. This news leaves the Yankees with a temporary void at the catching position, as Trevino's absence will require a reshuffling of the lineup.

In response to Trevino's injury, the Yankees have called up Carlos Narvaez from Triple-A. Narvaez, a promising talent who has yet to make his MLB debut, will now share the catching duties with Austin Wells until Trevino recovers. Wells and Trevino have split playing time evenly this season, with each having 59 games and 186 plate appearances to their credit.

Trevino, known for his steady veteran presence and exceptional glovework, has been a valuable asset to the team. While both Wells and Trevino have contributed offensively, the latter has shown slightly better results at the plate, boasting eight home runs and a slash line of .244/.303/.411. Wells, on the other hand, has five home runs and a slash line of .219/.312/.369. In advanced metrics, Trevino holds a 103 wRC+ compared to Wells' 97 wRC+.

The extent of Trevino's absence and recovery timeline will become clearer once the test results are available. In the meantime, the Yankees may have to rely heavily on Wells and Narvaez to maintain stability behind the plate. Ben Rice could also be considered as an option for catching duties, but with his limited experience in his rookie season, the team may prefer utilizing his skills at first base in the absence of Anthony Rizzo.

If Trevino's absence stretches over a more extended period, it could prompt the Yankees to explore options for additional veteran catching depth before the trade deadline or consider signing an experienced backup to support Narvaez.

As the Yankees adapt to this setback, their focus will be on maintaining consistency in the catching position and ensuring Trevino makes a full recovery before returning to action.
