A 64-year-old American woman ended her life using a 3D-printed suicide pod in the Swiss town of Merishausen, located in northern Switzerland. This event happened almost immediately after the pod was set up, according to Dr. Philip Nitschke, the creator of the contentious device.

Dr. Nitschke shared with Dutch newspaper Volkskrant that the circumstances unfolded exactly as anticipated. He estimated that the woman lost consciousness within two minutes and passed away five minutes later.

Swiss authorities promptly responded to the incident by arresting several individuals. The police are currently examining potential charges related to incitement and being an accessory to suicide.

A police spokesperson informed Blick, "We found the capsule with the lifeless person inside. We took the person out of the capsule and brought them to the Institute of Forensic Medicine. An autopsy will be performed there today."

The case has sparked renewed debates about the ethics and legality of assisted suicide and the use of such advanced technology in its facilitation.
