In a weather update provided by meteorologist Violet Scibior, Central New York (CNY) is currently under a Winter Storm Warning due to a strong weather system moving through the region. The warning will remain in effect until 2pm on Monday.

The weather system brings with it a mix of rain and snow, accompanied by strong winds. A significant amount of snowfall is expected to accumulate from Sunday evening through midday Monday. The highest snowfall totals are predicted in the North Country, while the rest of CNY is under a Winter Weather Advisory, with a few inches of snowfall expected in most areas. The highest amounts are anticipated in the elevated regions.

Residents of CNY are also advised to be cautious of strong winds. A Wind Advisory is in effect from 5pm today until 8pm Monday. Wind speeds of 20-30mph from the northwest, with gusts up to 50mph, are expected. These strong winds have the potential to cause downed tree branches and isolated power outages.

The day will begin with spotty light rain and wet snow showers across CNY, persisting throughout the day under cloudy skies. The wind will gradually pick up, becoming strongest towards sunset. Widespread snowfall will then develop late afternoon and continue overnight into Monday morning. By midday, the snow will taper off and give way to sunshine in the afternoon. However, the strong winds will persist throughout the day.

It is important for residents to stay prepared and take necessary precautions during these weather conditions. Travel might be impacted, and individuals should exercise caution while commuting. The snowfall totals and the latest forecast can be viewed on the provided Futurecast and snowfall totals maps.

The authorities urge everyone to stay updated on weather advisories and make necessary arrangements to stay safe during this winter storm.
