A winter storm brought heavy snow to parts of Central New Jersey, leaving some areas with up to a foot of snow. The snow band responsible for the heaviest snow was only 5 to 10 miles wide, making it difficult to predict the exact locations affected. In New York City, snow totals ranged from 2 inches in Central Park to nearly 10 inches at Coney Island, with Staten Island and southern parts of Brooklyn also experiencing heavier snowfall.
Although some flurries or snow showers may linger into the afternoon, no additional accumulation is expected. The snow is described as very light and fluffy, aiding in the rapid accumulation that was observed. Overnight temperatures are set to drop, with lows in the 20s and a wind chill making it feel like the teens. Untreated pavement may freeze, creating potentially hazardous conditions on the roads.
Looking ahead, Sunday is expected to be brighter and breezy with highs around 40 degrees. Dry conditions are forecasted for the week ahead, with temperatures gradually warming up. Residents are encouraged to remain cautious of icy spots as the winter weather transitions.
