The Chicago White Sox tied the American League record for losses in a season on Saturday, falling victim to a 6-2 defeat against the San Diego Padres. This loss brought their record to a dismal 36-119, putting them on par with the 2003 Tigers for the most losses in an AL season. If the White Sox experience one more loss against the Padres on Sunday, they will match the major-league record set by the 1962 Mets at 40-120.

Right-hander Chris Flexen extended his winless streak to 23 games, the longest in franchise history, by dropping to 0-11 in his last 22 starts. Flexen struggled against the Padres, giving up home runs to Xander Bogaerts and David Peralta. Despite the challenging circumstances, interim manager Grady Sizemore acknowledged the difficulties Flexen faced and the frustration that comes with such a remarkable streak. Sizemore emphasized player development for the upcoming season, steering the team's focus away from the mounting losses.

In a bold move, the White Sox welcomed back right-hander Michael Soroka from an injury rehab assignment as he replaced Flexen in the sixth inning against the Padres. Soroka delivered two scoreless innings, demonstrating his readiness to contribute positively. Additionally, the team designated right-hander Chad Kuhl, with a 5.06 ERA and one save in 31 appearances, for assignment. The White Sox are actively exploring options to improve their pitching staff and overall performance as they navigate a challenging season.
