The Chicago White Sox have been dealt a blow as designated hitter Eloy Jimenez has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain. Additionally, right-handed pitcher Steven Wilson will also be sidelined for 15 days with a back strain, resulting in some changes to the team's pitching staff.
Jimenez's injury occurred during Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays. As he crossed home plate on Corey Julks' two-run single in the fifth inning, he appeared to be in discomfort. He was eventually replaced by Gavin Sheets in the seventh inning.
This is not Jimenez's first encounter with soft tissue injuries, as he had previously missed the first two weeks of April due to an adductor strain suffered early in the season. The White Sox will undoubtedly miss his contributions on the field during his absence.
To account for these injuries, the White Sox have called up right-hander Nick Nastrini from Triple-A Charlotte. Nastrini will take the mound in Wednesday's series finale against the Blue Jays. Joining Nastrini is outfielder Zach DeLoach, who will be making his first appearance in the major leagues. DeLoach will bat eighth and play in right field.
DeLoach's call-up comes after his performance at Triple-A Charlotte, where he has a batting average of .263 with two home runs in 38 games. The young outfielder was acquired from the Seattle Mariners in an offseason trade for right-handed pitcher Gregory Santos.
With Jimenez out of the lineup, Tommy Pham will assume the designated hitter role for Wednesday's game, while Dominic Fletcher will take over center field duties.
The White Sox will hope for a speedy recovery for Jimenez and Wilson as they navigate through this challenging period. In the meantime, the team will rely on the fresh talent of Nastrini and DeLoach to contribute as they continue their quest for success in the season.
