Verstappen Takes Pole Position at 2024 Chinese Grand Prix

Max Verstappen of Red Bull secured pole position for the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix after an impressive qualifying session at the Shanghai International Circuit. It was a historic moment for Red Bull as Verstappen's pole marked their 100th in their team's history.
In the first qualifying session (Q1), Lewis Hamilton experienced a shocking exit, finishing in P18, while Zhou Guanyu, Kevin Magnussen, Yuki Tsunoda, and Logan Sargeant were also knocked out. Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly from Alpine, along with Alex Albon from Williams, ended up in P13, P15, and P14 respectively.
Q2 saw Carlos Sainz bringing out the red flags after spinning out and making contact with the barriers. Despite the setback, Sainz was able to rejoin the session after repairs, finishing in P3. Lance Stroll, Daniel Ricciardo, and the Alpine pair of Ocon and Gasly were among those eliminated in Q2, along with Albon.
In the final qualifying session (Q3), Verstappen set an impressive lap time of 1m 33.660s to secure pole position. Sergio Perez came in second, followed by Fernando Alonso in third. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri completed the top five. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz from Ferrari were in sixth and seventh place, while George Russell secured eighth for Mercedes. Nico Hulkenberg and Valtteri Bottas rounded out the top ten.
Verstappen was delighted with his performance, crediting the Sprint race for giving the team valuable insights. He expressed his satisfaction with the car's performance and the enjoyable driving experience throughout qualifying.
