In a heated response to criticism, Max Verstappen, the Red Bull driver, unleashed a profanity-laced tirade aimed at his detractors following the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix. Verstappen's frustration stemmed from his dissatisfaction with the team's race strategy and the backlash he received for his clash with Lewis Hamilton.
During the race at the Hungaroring, Verstappen repeatedly expressed his disappointment with Red Bull's strategy, which saw him drop to fifth place. However, on fresher tires, the reigning F1 world champion managed to overtake Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and engage in a high-stakes battle with Hamilton for the final podium spot. The encounter led to a collision at Turn 1, causing Verstappen to ultimately finish in fifth place.
Post-race, when asked to respond to his critics' claims that he had gone too far in the race and disrespected his own team over the team radio, Verstappen responded defiantly, saying, "They can all f*** off."
Verstappen, currently under investigation by the FIA stewards for his clash with Hamilton, also addressed criticism regarding his involvement in incidents with other drivers in previous races. Referring to the Austrian GP collision with Lando Norris, Verstappen defended his actions, stating, "I am positioning my car on the initial movement and then I keep it straight."
Regarding the clash with Hamilton in Hungary, Verstappen explained that Hamilton's aggressive turning to the right under braking caused the collision, resulting in him locking up. Verstappen emphasized the need to stop the car to prevent a crash, asserting that Hamilton's actions left him with no choice.
Verstappen's criticisms extended beyond Red Bull's race strategy. He expressed frustration at being left exposed to the undercut at each pit stop, losing positions to Hamilton and Leclerc. Verstappen believed that these strategy calls put him at a constant disadvantage, making overtaking a challenging task. The Dutch driver attributed his struggles to the hot track conditions, causing the tires to overheat when close to other cars, negating any advantage he had with his tires.
As the FIA stewards examine the incident between Verstappen and Hamilton, tensions continue to rise among critics and supporters alike. Verstappen remains resolute, refusing to back down in the face of criticism and maintaining that he did what was necessary to secure the best possible result.
With the F1 season heating up, the Verstappen-Hamilton rivalry takes center stage, and fans eagerly await the outcome of the investigation and the next race in the calendar.
