### Brock Boeser Out Indefinitely After Illegal Hit
In a significant blow to the Vancouver Canucks, forward Brock Boeser will be sidelined for an indefinite period due to an upper-body injury sustained from an illegal check to the head by Tanner Jeannot. The incident occurred midway through the first period in the Canucks' 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.
Boeser, who did not return to the game after the hit and missed the morning skate on Saturday ahead of the Canucks' matchup against the Edmonton Oilers, remains under evaluation. Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin has yet to provide an updated timeline for Boeser's return. Head coach Rick Tocchet commented on the situation, mentioning that Boeser didn't feel great but the severity of the injury was still uncertain, potentially changing within a week or even 24 hours.
In response to the hit, Jeannot received a match penalty and was subsequently handed a three-game suspension by the NHL Department of Player Safety. Coach Tocchet acknowledged the dangerous nature of the play and expressed hope for Boeser's recovery.
Boeser is a critical player for the Canucks, leading the team with six goals in 12 games this season and being second in points only to defenseman Quinn Hughes. Last season, Boeser set career highs with 40 goals and 73 points in 81 games. Overall, he has amassed 395 points in 491 games, all with the Canucks, who drafted him in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft.
Forward Jake DeBrusk emphasized Boeser's importance to the team, particularly in special teams and his overall presence on the ice. DeBrusk noted the need for a "next-man-up" mentality among the team members to fill the void left by Boeser's absence.
Conor Garland, who has moved into Boeser's position on the top line centered by J.T. Miller, also highlighted Boeser's underrated defensive abilities and key role in the neutral zone. He expressed optimism that other players would step up as Boeser recuperates.
The Canucks will now seek to navigate the upcoming games without one of their top performers, hoping for a swift and full recovery for their standout forward.
