In a shocking turn of events in the ongoing case of Kouri Richins, the Utah author accused of killing her husband and publishing a children's book on grief, a new charge has been filed against her. Prosecutors allege that Kouri attempted to poison her husband, Eric Richins, prior to his untimely death.

Kouri Richins, 33, was charged with aggravated murder last year for the alleged killing of Eric Richins, 39, at their home in Kamas, Utah, in March 2022. Now, prosecutors claim that the poisoning incident was not an isolated event. The new charge, filed on Monday, details how Eric fell ill after consuming a sandwich prepared by Kouri on Valentine's Day in 2022, just a few weeks before his death.

According to charging documents, after taking one bite of the sandwich, Eric experienced an allergic reaction, breaking out into hives. He had to rely on a bottle of Benadryl and even inject himself with his son's EpiPen to combat the severe allergic symptoms before eventually falling asleep. Disturbingly, Eric reportedly confided in a friend, expressing his suspicion that his wife had tried to poison him.

Further investigation revealed that Kouri had purchased several dozen pills containing fentanyl, a drug known to cause hives. She allegedly requested stronger fentanyl from her housekeeper, who had sold her the drugs, following Eric's initial illness. Prosecutors suggest that financial motives may be at play, as Kouri had opened life insurance policies on Eric without his knowledge, with benefits totaling nearly $2 million.

Kouri Richins has yet to enter a plea, but she has previously denied the allegations. In her defense, Kouri claimed that her husband had slipped the opioid into a cocktail she had prepared. This alternate explanation adds another layer of complexity to an already convoluted case.

Adding to the intrigue, Kouri self-published a book titled "Are You with Me?" shortly after her husband's death. The book, which deals with how children can process the death of a parent, was promoted by Kouri on local TV. At the time, she portrayed her husband's passing as unexpected, claiming that it had taken them all by shock.

As the legal proceedings continue, the community remains captivated by the unfolding details surrounding Kouri Richins and the accusations surrounding her husband's death. The case serves as a chilling reminder of the darkness that can lurk beneath the surface, leaving many wondering how such tragedy could unfold within the seemingly ordinary life of a small-town author.
