In a series of meetings with top Middle Eastern leaders, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has reiterated the call for a truce in the war on Gaza and support for a two-state solution, according to the US Department of State. These meetings with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi mark Blinken's sixth trip to the region since the conflict began.

During the talks with the Saudi crown prince in Jeddah, Blinken emphasized the urgent need to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The State Department stated that Blinken reaffirmed the United States' commitment to finding a lasting solution to the crisis in Gaza and establishing a future Palestinian state with security guarantees for Israel.

Following his meeting with top Egyptian officials, including el-Sisi, Blinken discussed negotiations to secure an immediate ceasefire for at least six weeks and the release of all hostages. The State Department highlighted the importance of these discussions in the pursuit of peace in the region.

Speaking at a joint news conference with Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry, Blinken outlined the US vision for post-war Gaza. He emphasized that Gaza should not be used as a platform for terrorism, and stated that there should be no displacement of its population or re-occupation by Israel.

During his visit, Blinken also addressed concerns about the US providing weapons to Israel, which are used in the ongoing conflict. He stressed that while the US supports Israel's right to defend itself, efforts are being made to address the humanitarian crisis and protect innocent civilians.

The mounting death toll and destruction in Gaza have raised concerns about a potential famine, with United Nations experts warning of its imminent arrival due to Israel's blockade. Despite these challenges, the Biden administration continues to financially and diplomatically support Israel, with plans to secure over $14 billion in additional aid for the country.

Blinken's trip to the region comes amidst increased criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by members of Biden's Democratic Party. However, the Biden administration has reaffirmed its commitment to pro-Israel policies, signaling that they will continue their support for the country.

The discussions between Blinken and the Saudi Crown Prince also touched upon the topic of "integration" among countries in the region, specifically referring to formal diplomatic relations between Israel and Arab states. However, the Gaza conflict has complicated efforts to establish ties between Saudi Arabia and Israel, as the kingdom has made it clear that diplomatic relations will only be considered once an independent Palestinian state is recognized.

As Blinken concludes his trip with a visit to Israel, the focus will be on narrowing the gaps and working towards a truce agreement. While challenges remain in the negotiations, the US Secretary of State remains committed to finding a resolution to the ongoing conflict in the region.
