US President Joe Biden is currently reviewing reports of a tragic incident in Gaza, where more than 100 Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli troops as they awaited desperately needed food aid near Gaza City on Thursday. The health authorities in Gaza reported that 280 people were wounded in the incident.

The deadly incident is expected to complicate talks on a ceasefire, with President Biden acknowledging that negotiations will likely be affected by the tragedy. The President had previously hoped for a temporary ceasefire in the ongoing battle between Israel and Hamas, but now believes it may not happen by Monday as planned.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, confirmed that they were not involved in the aid distribution that turned deadly in northern Gaza. The agency's commissioner-general expressed dismay over the escalating death toll in Gaza and called for an end to the ongoing violence.

The United States is urgently seeking information on the incident, with a spokesperson for the US State Department confirming that Israel is conducting an investigation into the shooting. Washington is pushing for answers and emphasizing the importance of allowing more aid into Gaza.

Lebanon's caretaker prime minister expressed confidence that Hezbollah would adhere to a ceasefire if Israel reciprocates in Gaza, suggesting that a halt to fighting could lead to negotiations for long-term stability in the region.

President Biden discussed the incident with leaders from Egypt and Qatar, expressing the urgency of securing the release of hostages and achieving a six-week ceasefire to prevent further loss of civilian lives in Gaza.

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the incident and called for urgent humanitarian assistance to be provided to civilians in Gaza, particularly those in besieged areas where aid delivery has been disrupted for over a week. Italy's foreign minister also called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and urged Israel to protect the Palestinian population.
