According to UK-based Skytrax, the William P. Hobby Airport in Houston, Texas, and Terminal B at New York's LaGuardia Airport have been highlighted as the cream of the crop in the United States, both earning a five-star rating. Hobby Airport stood out for its top-notch customer service, varied seating options, and upgraded interior decor, while LaGuardia's Terminal B earned praise for its spacious interiors, floor-to-ceiling windows, inspiring art features, and iconic dining and shopping facilities.
While US airports did not receive any one or two-star ratings, more than three dozen were given a "fair or average" three-star rating by Skytrax, including busy hubs like Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport and Washington Reagan National Airport. Despite being the world's busiest airport for over two decades, Atlanta airport faced criticism for its staffing levels, baggage delivery times, and lacking quiet areas. Despite these drawbacks, the airport was commended for its fast-food options and helpful information staff.
DFW Airport, the second-busiest in the world in 2022 and a major American Airlines hub, received mixed reviews, particularly regarding food and shopping options, as well as its business-class lounges. On the other hand, its efficient terminal layouts, immigration process, and staff service were acknowledged.
Denver Airport, welcoming a record number of passengers in the previous year, was flagged for slow security processing and limited access between concourses, while its transportation services and impressive terminal architecture received approval from Skytrax.
O'Hare International Airport, conveniently connected to Chicago by trains, was criticized for its outdated terminal interiors and poor seating options, along with difficulty traveling between terminals. Similarly, LAX airport faced challenges with congestion and slow security and immigration procedures, despite boasting an excellent terminal design and a good variety of dining options.
Other airports like JFK International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport also received three-star ratings from Skytrax, citing inconsistencies and dated infrastructure as areas of concern. Skytrax's assessment highlights opportunities for improvement in various aspects of the passenger experience across these major US airports.
