University of Georgia Police are currently questioning a person of interest in connection to the tragic death of 22-year-old student Laken Hope Riley. Riley, a junior at Augusta University College of Nursing in Athens and a former University of Georgia student, was found deceased near a lake on UGA's campus Thursday afternoon after failing to return from a jog. The cause of her death remains undetermined as authorities continue their investigation.
Following the discovery of Riley's body, classes at both the University of Georgia's Athens campus and Augusta University's College of Nursing campus have been canceled. The UGA Police received a call expressing concern for Riley's whereabouts after she did not return from a jog at the university's intramural fields. Investigators located her remains shortly after.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities urge anyone with information regarding Riley's death to contact the UGA Police Department. This tragic event comes on the heels of the unexpected death of a UGA student found at Brumby Hall earlier, which was ruled as a death investigation/suicide with no signs of foul play.
The University of Georgia community mourns the loss of both students, emphasizing the need for solidarity in the face of these devastating tragedies.
