The United Steelworkers, a 1.2 million-member union representing workers in various industries, has officially announced their endorsement of President Joe Biden for the upcoming 2024 election. This comes after earlier hints that they would be backing him over former President Donald Trump, whom they had not received a positive response from during his tenure.

The union, which had also supported Biden in the 2020 election, praised the President's leadership in creating favorable conditions for workers. Union President David McCall stated that Biden's vision and policies have led to improved access to collective bargaining and have helped grow the middle class. McCall emphasized that Biden stood with working families throughout his first term, allowing the nation to strengthen workers' rights and embark on a path towards widespread prosperity.

President Biden has long touted himself as the "most pro-union president in American history" and has garnered endorsements from various labor unions, including the United Auto Workers, SEIU, and the AFL-CIO. The United Steelworkers' endorsement further solidifies Biden's support among the labor community.

McCall highlighted Biden's efforts in enacting pro-worker legislation like the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act. He commended the President for making good on his promise to create good, union jobs and to help build healthier communities across the country. McCall emphasized that such sweeping investments had long been needed by the nation, and President Biden had taken decisive action to make them a reality.

In contrast, McCall raised concerns about the Trump administration's track record with unions. He asserted that the previous presidency "didn't work too well for us last time", as it saw the appointment of several anti-union figures. Additionally, McCall revealed that Trump had not reached out to him and that his campaign had failed to respond to the union's issues survey, which had been sent to all prospective presidential candidates in both parties.

The Biden campaign is now seeking to secure an endorsement from the Teamsters union, with whom they have engaged in talks. Union leaders had met with Biden recently, and they had previously engaged with third-party candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West.

As the 2024 election approaches, President Biden is building a strong support base among labor unions, leveraging his pro-worker policies and his commitment to fostering a prosperous middle class. The United Steelworkers' endorsement adds to the growing list of endorsements that Biden has secured from the labor community, further bolstering his campaign for re-election.
