In an impressive display of athleticism, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, Ukraine's top high jumper, set a new world record at a Diamond League meet in Paris. The 22-year-old Mahuchikh jumped an astounding 2.10 meters (6.88 feet), surpassing the previous record of 2.09 meters set by Bulgaria's Stefka Kostadinova in 1987.

Expressing her determination and confidence, Mahuchikh revealed that she had anticipated achieving the 2.07-meter and 2.10-meter marks for some time. With her incredible performance in Paris, she proudly established Ukraine's presence in the history of world athletics.

Mahuchikh's path to success has not been without challenges. She left her hometown of Dnipro amid the ongoing conflict with Russia, which has forced many Ukrainian athletes to train in foreign countries. Despite the distance, Mahuchikh remains deeply connected to her homeland and advocates for Ukrainian sports to inspire hope among those fighting for the country's survival.

"We all are fighting for our people, for our soldiers," she declared last month after defending her European title. "We want to show every person in the world that we will continue fighting, that war in Ukraine is not finished, unfortunately. We should fight in every field to show that Ukraine is strongest."

With her eyes now set on the upcoming Olympics, Mahuchikh's record-breaking performance serves as a powerful reminder of her determination and resilience. As World Athletics has banned all Russian athletes from the track meet, Mahuchikh voiced her support for the decision, aligning with the organization's efforts to maintain fair competition.

World Athletics President, Sebastian Coe, recently visited Kyiv and reiterated his support for Ukraine's ongoing struggle. By commanding the world stage with her extraordinary achievements, Yaroslava Mahuchikh has not only paved her way to the Olympics but also become an emblem of hope for her war-torn nation.
