UK Man Sentenced to Prison for Carrying a Replica Master Sword in Public
A man from Nuneaton, Warwickshire, England, has been sentenced to four months in prison for publicly carrying a bladed article - a small replica of the Master Sword from the popular video game series, The Legend of Zelda. Last month, Anthony Bray was arrested when police spotted him walking down the street with the Master Sword in his hands.
According to reports from Warwickshire police, Bray insisted that he had purchased the replica online and intended to use it as a "fidget toy." He claimed that he had no intention of using the sword as a weapon. However, his open and visible carrying of a bladed article violated the law, regardless of his intentions.
Sergeant Spellman of the Warwickshire police stated, "It is possible to find fidget toys that aren't six-inch blades, and it is possible not to walk down the street holding them out in front of you. With a bit more self-awareness, Bray could have avoided contact with us completely."
Along with his prison sentence, Bray has been ordered to pay a fine of £154. The report did not mention whether the Master Sword replica would be returned to him upon his release from prison.
Carrying replica video game weapons in public is a common sight at conventions or in collectors' displays. However, the inclusion of an actual blade on the Master Sword replica proved to be a costly mistake for Bray. It serves as a reminder that caution should be exercised when handling or carrying such items in public spaces.
It is worth noting that the Legend of Zelda Master Sword replica incident occurred on June 8, as reported by Warwickshire police. This case highlights the importance of understanding local laws regarding possession and display of bladed articles to avoid legal consequences.
