U.S. Central Command revealed on Thursday that American aircraft and a coalition warship successfully intercepted six Houthi one-way attack drones in the Red Sea. The unmanned aerial vehicles were taken out around 4:30 a.m. local time and were deemed to be an imminent threat to U.S. and coalition warships.

Furthermore, between 8:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m., two anti-ship ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi rebels from southern Yemen struck the MV Islander, causing minor damage and one injury. Despite this attack, the vessel, registered in Palau and owned by the U.K., continued its voyage to its destination.

This recent assault comes after the Pentagon confirmed that the Houthis downed a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone off the coast of Yemen, marking the second such incident since November 2023. Additionally, Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists targeted a Greek-flagged ship carrying grain to Yemen with two anti-ship missiles, resulting in minor damage. The vessel, M/V Sea Champion, sustained the impact but persisted with its journey to deliver humanitarian aid to Yemen.

Amid the ongoing conflict in Yemen, where nearly 80% of the population requires humanitarian assistance, Central Command highlighted the critical need to counter the Houthis' acts of aggression that jeopardize the import of food and aid into the country. The M/V Sea Champion, which has provided humanitarian aid to Yemen 11 times over the past five years, exemplifies the continued efforts to support the Yemeni people in this dire situation.
