In a shocking betrayal of national security, U.S. Army soldier and intelligence analyst, Korbein Schultz, was arrested today at Fort Campbell following an indictment by a federal grand jury. Schultz stands accused of conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defense information, exporting technical data related to defense articles without a license, conspiracy to export defense articles without a license, and bribery of a public official.

According to Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen of the Justice Department's National Security Division, Schultz conspired with an individual overseas, identified as Conspirator A, to obtain and provide sensitive government information. In exchange for thousands of dollars, Schultz provided his co-conspirator with classified documents, plans, maps, notes, and photographs relating to national defense.

The indictment reveals that Conspirator A frequently tasked Schultz, who held a Top Secret security clearance, with gathering information on various U.S. military weapons systems. This included classified information and details about potential U.S. plans in the event of a military attack on Taiwan. Schultz provided Conspirator A with critical information on the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), hypersonic equipment, the future development of U.S. military forces, and military drills and operations.

Throughout the duration of the conspiracy, Conspirator A, allegedly residing in Hong Kong and working for a geopolitical consulting firm, made at least 14 payments to Schultz amounting to approximately $42,000.

"The Department of Justice is committed to identifying and holding accountable those who would break their oath to protect our nation's secrets," emphasized Assistant Attorney General Olsen. This arrest serves as a reminder that betrayals of national defense information will not go unpunished.

U.S. Attorney Henry C. Leventis for the Middle District of Tennessee expressed grave concern over the unauthorized sale of sensitive information, stating that it compromises national security and poses a threat to the safety of the American people.

The FBI and the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Command conducted an intensive investigation into Schultz's activities, leading to his arrest. Brigadier General Rhett R. Cox, Commanding General of the Army Counterintelligence Command, stressed that any betrayal of trust will not be tolerated. He urged all members of the Army team to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Schultz also violated the Arms Export Control Act by sending Conspirator A three documents related to Air Force Tactics Techniques and Procedures for the HH-60W helicopter, F22-A fighter aircraft, and intercontinental ballistic missiles.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh Kurtzman for the Middle District of Tennessee, along with Trial Attorneys Adam Barry and Christopher Cook of the National Security Division's Counterintelligence and Export Control Section.

This alarming incident underscores the importance of safeguarding national defense information and the vigilance required to protect the United States against both foreign and domestic threats to national security.
