In a disappointing outcome for the U.S. 3x3 men's basketball team, they were eliminated from the Paris Olympics after a 21-6 loss to the Netherlands. The American team concludes their time in Paris with a record of 2-5 in Olympic pool play.

Jimmer Fredette, a key player for the U.S. team, did not participate in the game against the Netherlands, just as he had not played in the team's previous four games. This absence was a result of an injury sustained during the team's match-up with Poland on Wednesday. Fredette is reportedly dealing with a lower-body issue, as previously reported by the Deseret News.

The game between the U.S. and the Netherlands started off on an even note, with both teams exchanging 1-pointers in the opening minutes. However, the Netherlands managed to pull away around the 6-minute mark, establishing an 11-point lead of 17-6 with four minutes left on the clock. Despite their efforts, Team USA was unable to score again, and the Netherlands clinched victory with a final score of 21-6, more than three minutes before the game's official end time. In 3x3 basketball, games conclude when a team reaches 21 points or after 10 minutes.

Each of the U.S. players who saw action in the game, including Canyon Berry, Kareem Maddox, and Dylan Travis, contributed two points to the team's total, according to Olympics.com.

The 3x3 basketball tournament at the Paris Olympics follows a specific format. The U.S. team was one of eight men's 3x3 teams to qualify for the tournament. During the pool round, which concluded on Sunday, each team competed against all seven other teams. Following these matches, the teams were ranked based on their records, and these rankings determined the seeding for the elimination rounds, which are set to begin on Sunday afternoon.

As per ESPN, the top two teams from the pool round will advance to the semifinals, while the bottom two teams will be eliminated. The remaining four teams will compete in a play-in round, with the third-ranked team facing the sixth-ranked team, and the fourth-ranked team facing the fifth-ranked team. The winners from these play-in matches will then advance to the semifinals.

With their Olympic journey coming to an end, the U.S. 3x3 men's basketball team will reflect on their experience in Paris while shifting their focus towards future opportunities to represent their country on the international stage.
