In a recent development, it has been revealed that the Kobe Bryant statue, which was unveiled on February 8 outside Crypto.com Arena to honor the Los Angeles Lakers legend, contains four typos on the box score located on its base. The Lakers organization confirmed this information to The Athletic on Monday.

A team spokesperson acknowledged that they have been aware of the errors for a few weeks now and are working diligently to rectify the mistakes. The sculpture, created by the Illinois-based couple Omri Amrany and Julie Rotblatt-Amrany, who have designed and crafted all the statues outside Crypto.com Arena, was a collaborative effort between them, Vanessa Bryant (Kobe's widow), and the Lakers organization.

The statue captures a pivotal moment in Kobe Bryant's career, specifically his historic 81-point game against the Raptors on January 22, 2006. The pose depicts Kobe with his right arm raised and index finger pointing towards the fans, an iconic gesture that highlights his dominance on the basketball court. Surrounding the sculpture are five championship trophies, symbolizing the five Lakers titles won during Kobe's illustrious career.

The base of the statue features an inscription of Kobe Bean Bryant's nickname, "Black Mamba," along with the box score from the legendary 81-point game. Additionally, a quote from Kobe that reads, "Leave the game better than you found it. And when it comes time for you to leave, leave a legend," is etched on the side of the base. However, it has come to light that there are four typos within the box score.

German basketball journalist André Voigt was the first to bring attention to these errors in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday. The team has not disclosed an exact timeline for when the corrections will be made, but they have assured fans that efforts are already underway to rectify the situation.

Vanessa Bryant, widow of Kobe Bryant, has shared that there will be three Kobe statues outside Crypto.com Arena. These statues will portray Kobe wearing his two iconic jersey numbers, No. 8 and No. 24, respectively, and one will depict Kobe alongside his daughter, Gianna.

Kobe Bryant's statue joins the elite ranks of other Lakers legends honored with statues in Star Plaza. These include Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, announcer Chick Hearn, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, and Jerry West. The addition of Kobe's statue pays tribute to his incredible contributions to the Lakers organization and the sport of basketball as a whole.

The Lakers organization remains committed to ensuring that the Kobe Bryant statue reflects his legacy accurately and without any errors. Fans can anticipate the corrections to be made in the near future, allowing them to fully appreciate the tribute and the enduring impact of Kobe Bryant's extraordinary career.
