The much-anticipated disaster film sequel, "Twisters," is already gaining early support as it aims to replicate the success of the original "Twister" released nearly three decades ago. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film has received encouraging feedback from critics, with a "fresh" score on the review aggregator website following its premiere in London on July 8.

Starring Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos, "Twisters" has garnered a 78% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, higher than the 66% rating earned by the original film. Critics have praised the film's thrilling weather-centric storyline, pacing, and heart-pounding excitement.

Director Lee Isaac Chung recently revealed a "crazy" decision made during the shoot, which added to the challenges of filming "Twisters." However, this setback has not diminished the overall high expectations surrounding the film. Pop Culture Planet's Kristen Maldonado hailed the film's opening as captivating, setting the stage for the rest of the story. Similarly, RogerEbert.com's Tomris Laffly praised the film's overall summer blockbuster appeal and Glen Powell's charismatic performance.

While "Twisters" is a standalone sequel, it pays homage to the original film with a cameo appearance by James Paxton, son of the late Bill Paxton, who starred in the first film. Despite not featuring any direct connections to the original, the sequel follows social media storm chaser Tyler Owens (played by Glen Powell), meteorologist Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones), and Javi (Anthony Ramos) as they navigate their conflicting approaches to chasing tornadoes. Together, they unite to face a deadly storm in Oklahoma.

Not only is "Twisters" gaining critical acclaim, but it also appears poised for success at the box office. Projections suggest that the film could earn as much as $50 million during its opening weekend in North America. Following its premiere in the U.K., "Twisters" has already made $11 million, a promising start towards recouping its $200 million budget.

As the sequel gears up for its release, fans of the original can catch up on the thrilling tornado-filled adventure with "Twister" now available on a new streaming platform. Interestingly, the original film's director, Jan De Bont, has expressed surprise at the announcement of the sequel, claiming he was unaware of its development until he saw the first trailer on television. Despite this, he believes "Twisters" should have been made 15 years ago.

"Twisters" is set to hit theaters across North America on July 19, promising audiences a heart-pounding, action-packed experience filled with destructive storms and adrenaline-fueled chase sequences. With its strong critical reception and high box office projections, the sequel looks poised to captivate audiences just as its predecessor did nearly three decades ago.
