Former President Donald Trump has once again made baseless claims, this time suggesting that President Joe Biden is responsible for the ongoing legal cases against him in New York. However, a closer examination of the facts reveals that there is no evidence to support Trump's assertions.

In recent remarks, Trump referred to two major developments in his New York legal battles. Firstly, he highlighted the setting of an April 15 date for the commencement of his Manhattan criminal trial, where he faces charges related to falsifying business records in connection with a hush money scheme. Secondly, he mentioned a reduced bond requirement after being found liable for civil fraud in an appeals court.

Trump's claims that these trials are all "Biden-run things" are unfounded. The Manhattan prosecution is being led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, an elected official who does not report to the president or the federal Justice Department. Similarly, the civil fraud case is being handled by New York Attorney General Letitia James, also an elected official who operates independently of the president.

Furthermore, there is no basis to suggest that President Biden had any involvement in the decision of Matthew Colangelo, a former senior Justice Department official, to join the district attorney's office in 2022. Colangelo's association with Bragg predates Biden's presidency, as they previously worked together in the office of New York's attorney general.

Trump's allegations hold no weight when it comes to the timing of the civil fraud trial. James filed the lawsuit that initiated the case against Trump in September 2022, well before Biden launched his 2024 campaign. It is crucial to note that James' investigation began in 2019, two years prior to Biden assuming the presidency.

It is worth highlighting that Trump's federal indictments were brought by special counsel Jack Smith, who was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland, a Biden appointee. However, this appointment does not provide any evidence that Biden was involved in the prosecution effort or that he ordered the indictments, as Trump has previously claimed. Garland has made it clear that he would resign if Biden ever asked him to take action against Trump.

Additionally, Trump's repeated assertion that Biden orchestrated Colangelo's move from the Justice Department to the Manhattan district attorney's office lacks supporting evidence. Colangelo's previous work involved investigating Trump's charity and financial practices while working under the New York attorney general. He also held positions in the Biden administration but never served as the top official at the Justice Department, contrary to Trump's claims.

In conclusion, there is no substance to Trump's baseless claims linking President Biden to his legal woes. The ongoing trials in New York are being led by elected officials who operate independently of the president or the federal Justice Department. Trump's persistent allegations lack evidence and are contradicted by the timelines of the investigations and appointments involved.
