During his interview with American Airlines, he made it a point to clarify his racial identity, emphasizing his pride in his heritage.

Once established with American Airlines, Harris went on to become a mentor for aspiring African American pilots, both men and women, actively encouraging their pursuit of aviation careers. He believed in reaching back and helping others succeed, emphasizing the importance of leaving a meaningful legacy.
