### Lion Mauls Zookeeper to Death at Nigerian Wildlife Park
A tragic incident took place at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Wildlife Park in Nigeria when a zookeeper lost his life to a lion attack. The unfortunate event occurred after the park had officially closed for the day.
Babaji Daule, a 35-year-old experienced lion handler, was fatally bitten in the neck on Saturday while giving a private tour to late-arriving guests. Despite the park's closing hours, Daule consented to feed the lion in the presence of the visitors, according to park officials who spoke to the Daily Post Nigeria.
Reports indicate that Daule, who felt at ease with the lion, chose to leave the protective gate open while he went to feed the animal. This lapse in protocol proved fatal as the lion mauled him, leading to his immediate death.
In response to the attack, park management stated that the lion was shot dead to prevent further mutilation of Daule's body. They emphasized that Daule’s actions were inconsistent with the park’s standard feeding procedures.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola corroborated that NEGLIGENCE led to the deadly incident. "He carelessly neglected to secure the locks and barricade the lion's enclosure before approaching the cage to feed the animal," Odutola said. This lapse allowed the lion to escape and fatally injure Daule.
The wildlife park expressed deep condolences to Daule's bereaved family and assured the public of its ongoing commitment to maintaining safety for all employees, visitors, and animals.
