### Tragedy Strikes Bengaluru Stadium During IPL Victory Parade

In a devastating incident, eleven people lost their lives and dozens were injured in a stampede outside a cricket stadium in Bengaluru. The stadium was hosting a victory parade to celebrate the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) triumph in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The event saw an overwhelming turnout as thousands lined the streets on Wednesday to greet the victorious team, who had defeated the Punjab Kings in the IPL final the previous day. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed deep shock over the incident, noting that the authorities did not anticipate such a large crowd. Despite preparations, the police were overwhelmed by the unexpected turnout, which was estimated to be over 200,000 people—twice the expected number.

The stampede occurred as fans attempted to push through a small gate outside the stadium, even before the gates were officially opened. The resulting chaos led to the tragic loss of lives and left dozens injured. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the incident as "heartrending," extending his thoughts to those mourning their loved ones. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah echoed these sentiments, reflecting on how a joyful event turned tragic.

The RCB team had arrived at Bengaluru's old HAL airport on a special flight and were welcomed by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. From there, they proceeded in a celebratory convoy to a hotel and then to the grand Vidhana Soudha, the state legislature's seat, where they were greeted by Governor Thawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and other officials. The team's schedule included another procession to the stadium, which was cut short by the tragedy.

Inside the stadium, a brief reception took place where cricket icon Virat Kohli addressed the crowd. Eyewitnesses described large crowds moving towards the stadium from all parts of the city. Public transportation was overwhelmed, with metro trains so packed that many, including journalists, couldn’t board. Commuters faced difficulties as auto rickshaws and taxis either denied requests or dropped passengers far from their destination.

Following news of the fatalities, panicked attendees rushed towards metro stations. Authorities had to shut down the metro stations surrounding the stadium, as platforms became inundated with people trying to leave the area.
