**PSG Victory Celebrations Turn Deadly: Two Fatalities and Hundreds Arrested Across France**
In the aftermath of Paris Saint-Germain's (PSG) historic win in the Champions League final, celebrations across France have turned tragic with two reported deaths and over 550 arrests, according to the French interior ministry. Chaos erupted as fans took to the streets, resulting in significant injuries and widespread vandalism.
The ministry reported that 192 individuals sustained injuries during the overnight disturbances. The capital saw the bulk of the arrests, with 490 people detained in Paris alone. Among the casualties, a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed in Dax, and a 23-year-old man lost his life in central Paris after a scooter collision.
Scenes of chaos unfolded as excited fans set off flares and fireworks, destroyed bus shelters, and torched vehicles. Media reports indicated that the celebrations were fueled by PSG's first-ever Champions League victory. The disturbances also left 22 police officers and seven firefighters injured, with 264 vehicles set ablaze.
Paris police prefect Laurent Nuñez confirmed that PSG's planned trophy parade will proceed as scheduled on Sunday evening. However, he assured the public that there will be heightened police and military presence to maintain order.
"The toll is lower than what we have seen in the past, but we will never get used to this kind of abuse, with people who only came to commit acts of vandalism and who did not even watch the match, and we will always have a very firm response," stated Nuñez. He stressed the distinction between genuine PSG supporters and those engaging in criminal activities.
The tragic turn of events highlights the darker side of public celebrations and underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in managing large gatherings.
