An internal investigation conducted by the NBA revealed that Porter engaged in several illicit gambling activities, including betting on NBA games, sharing confidential information with other gamblers, and manipulating his participation in certain games to influence the outcomes of bets. This egregious misconduct has drawn severe consequences from the league.

The investigation was triggered by Porter's suspiciously brief appearance in the Raptors' game against the Sacramento Kings on March 20th. Porter left the game after only three minutes, claiming to be ill. Prior to the match, Porter disclosed his health status to an individual whom he knew to be an NBA bettor. As a result, that individual placed an $80,000 wager on the game, specifically betting on Porter's underperformance. Fortunately, due to the sports book's vigilance, the wager was frozen, preventing a potential payout of $1.1 million.

Further findings from the investigation revealed that Porter utilized an associate's account to place bets on at least 13 NBA games after joining the Raptors. Although none of these bets were placed on games in which Porter played, three of them involved a single Raptors game. In total, Porter wagered $54,094 during this timeframe, resulting in a payout of $76,059, according to the league's claims.

Interestingly, it was also discovered that Porter had an active VIP FanDuel account prior to his signing with the Raptors in December of last year. Reports suggest that he placed bets amounting to millions of dollars on this account between 2021 and 2023, while playing for various NBA G League teams. However, these bets did not involve NBA or college basketball games, sources have confirmed.

Porter's involvement in gambling practices came to light when he began posting about his activities on X under the account @TayTrades11 in September 2020. The account, which focused on gambling, stock trading, and cryptocurrency, has been inactive since 2023, according to Daily Hive's reports.

The NBA's decision to permanently ban Jontay Porter serves as a stern reminder to all players about the strict no-tolerance policy in place regarding gambling. The league has consistently prioritized the integrity of the game and the protection of its players' welfare, issuing severe penalties to those who breach the regulations.

As the Toronto Raptors assess the impact of Porter's ban, the NBA hopes that this incident will serve as a clear warning to others, emphasizing the importance of upholding the highest levels of integrity in professional sports.
