Toronto Maple Leafs Sign Chris Tanev to Six-Year Contract

The Toronto Maple Leafs made a major announcement today, confirming the signing of defenceman Chris Tanev to a six-year contract. The average annual value of the contract amounts to $4.5 million.
Tanev, who is 34 years old, played in 56 games for the Calgary Flames last season before being acquired by the Dallas Stars. During his time with the Stars, Tanev contributed five points, including one goal and four assists, in 19 games. Additionally, he provided two assists in 19 playoff games.
Having played 792 career NHL regular games, the Toronto native has amassed a total of 190 points, comprising of 33 goals and 157 assists. His penalty minutes stand at 194, and he has played for teams including Vancouver, Calgary, and Dallas.
A 6'2" and 193-pound defenceman, Tanev has displayed his skills in postseason play as well, scoring 13 points with one goal and 12 assists in 60 playoff games.
It is worth noting that Tanev entered the NHL undrafted and joined the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent on May 31, 2010.
